Creative Storage Solutions for a Space Station

When space missions are planned, space station storage is always a factor to consider. Astronauts need space-saving organizational solutions for their items, as well as space station equipment. Storage space on the space station is at a premium, so everything must be organized and stored efficiently. Do you have a closet full of shoes, but can never find the right pair? We’ve found that putting your shoes in a shoe organizer and stacking them by heel height is the best way to keep your space tidy. Here are some of our favorite ways to store your feet:

-Stack heels on top of each other on one shelf (this prevents it from sinking)  -Or stack different heights together like flats on the bottom and high heels on top for more visual flair.

Hang a pegboard on the wall with hooks for hanging tools and storage

You might be wondering why you would want to hang a pegboard on the wall. There are many great reasons for doing this that will make your life easier and more efficient. You can use it to store tools, hang things up, or even create an awesome DIY workspace in your garage! Here’s how you can do it with some simple steps:

1) Find a stud or strong beam on the wall where you want the board

2) Use screws to mount hooks onto the board

3) Install nails into studs at desired heights

4) Hang board – done!

Create an under-the-bed shoe organizer by cutting out the bottom of a plastic container and placing it under your bed

I found the perfect solution to storing my shoes! I bought a plastic container that fits nicely under my bed and cut out the bottom, then lined it with an old towel. It’s great because all of my shoes are now neatly organized in one place.  Fun fact: The top is the perfect size for storing extra sheets or blankets if you need more space on your floor!

Plus with a label maker and some labels, I’m able to see what is inside each jar without opening them up. This saves me time at dinner when someone asks for “that red one” or “the cumin.”  It’s like a little kitchen library that takes up no space!
